Happy Mother's Day! My Journey to Motherhood

Before anything else, I would like to greet all moms, nanay, ina, inay, mommy, mum, mama a very Happy Mother’s Day! I know that some people don’t exactly find this day anything different from ordinary days and some would even say we should be celebrating our mothers everyday. Well, I for one, found a new meaning of Mother’s Day when I became a mom myself.

With all that I’ve done wrong, I must have done something right. To deserve a hug every morning and butterfly kisses at night. And those are the moments I live for.

I didn’t realize how difficult and truly busy moms are. How could I when my mom seemed to be doing a terrific job and maintaining a real difficult career whilst raising 4 children. But ever since I became a mother, my mind has just been full of thoughts from chores, things to do, events to attend to, food to prepare, assignments to work on and having some quality time with the family. It’s a chaos up in a mom’s mind.

I have learned so much since becoming a mother and I have become wiser and definitely more thoughtful. Sometimes I try to reflect on my life before and realize how much I’ve grown the past 5 years. I really liked that quote that I heard from Netflix’ The Let Down,

You are still you as well as being mum. Even though you’re a mum, you’re still you.

When Robyn was born, she was a stranger to me. Blame it on the anesthesia or the emergency Cesarean operation I had to undergo, but I didn’t have an instant connection with her- the one you see on movies. When I first saw her, I didn’t cry. It was a formal “Oh hey you. You’re my daughter.” But as time passes by, and I learned about her, as we bonded on whatever it is, that’s when I fell deeply in love with her. And as I start to give my life to her, that’s when I learned about unconditional love.

I’m only on year 5 and I cannot wait for more years to come. Mother’s Day, as corny as it may sound, is our day to just be us;  our day to relax and unwind and maybe put our feet up and not think of anything. Because honestly, we can’t do this on any regular day. On Mother’s Day, we know that we are appreciated for all that we do everyday.

With that said, let me greet my beautiful Mumsy a special Happy Mother’s Day! All that I am, I owe to my mother.

I also thought that this was the most perfect time to share this with you all. This is one of the most special videos I have ever made. I have wanted to make this video for such a long time and on her 5th birthday, I finally finished.

“I love you Ro. I am your biggest fan, I hope you know I am. But do you think you can somehow slow down?”
