Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon Review

Brows have become such a big part of my makeup routine that I feel like I spend most time grooming my brows compared to everything else. And I believe that I finally found my perfect and most desired brow look and shape.

I’ve been experimenting and using several different brow products, from powder, pencils to gels and tints, and from different brands too. Last 2017, I received a curated package from Maybelline that is all about brows. Most of them- I’m very familiar with. But I gotta say I was most drawn to their brow pomade crayon.

Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon

Maybelline’s 1st brow pomade crayon! This easy-to-use pomade crayon sculpts and tames eyebrows as it colors. Master the perfect brow in one simple sweep.

Benefits:

  1. Sculpts and tames as it colors the eyebrows
  2. Has a creamy formula that glides easily and blends well
  3. Pigmented shades give a bold brow look

The shade that I have is Natural Brown. The Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon comes in a retractable crayon-like packaging. It’s got that big fat body and has a slimmer tip. Imagine the big crayon of Crayola or maybe if you’re familiar with Clinique Chubby Sticks.

First thing first, it’s very creamy and a little goes a long way. Since it’s pomade form, you should expect a mousse/creamy texture. Very different from your traditional pencil. I have used pomades in the past but they’re usually in a pot. It may take a little bit of getting used to but this cuts down needing 2 different products for the brows, namely wax and powder/pencil.

I find that the Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon really helps keep the brows in place. I no longer need to use a brow mascara. It really helps tame the hair and my brows don’t move. I also like the color. It’s a perfect “natural looking” brow shade. It doesn’t create harsh lines and it blends to the brow hair really nicely.

However, I also have some issues with the product. The product if not set with a powder smudges when you sweat or get oily and accidentally rub your brows. This has happened to me several times since I’ve been going to the gym and sweating. Especially on the front or starting part of my brows which I use feather like strokes for a softer 3D look. I accidentally scratched that part and the product transferred to my hand and smudged.

I like doing my brows with an angeled brush for precision. I prefer having control when I do my brows. Unfortunately for this product, since it’s retractable and cannot be sharpened, the tip is going to get flat and may be difficult to have the same precision as the first few times you use it.  Another unfortunate thing is I accidentally dropped it without its cap, so you can just imagine how devastated I was. The tip got flat and fat that I lost precision when I use it on my brows and now would need to use a separate brush to apply it evenly on my brows. Because if I don’t, it’s going to be so uneven, I tell you.

Overall, it’s an okay product for everyday. If I  need fast application and minimal makeup, I use this product. I still find it easy to use once you get the hang of it. But  like what I said, I would use an angeled brush to spread the product more evenly. It gives me fuller looking brows without looking too made up.

If I need it to last longer, I put some powder on top. I would normally do this on the outer edge of my brows which I want to be sharp and darker. And I also skip using the Pomade Crayon on the inner part of my eyebrows and just use powder for a softer look.

Do let me know if you’ve tried the product and your thoughts on it as well. 🙂
