Scented Candles

Cheers to the long weekend and let's welcome December with a big bang! I can't believe it's already December. A few days to go, it's already Christmas. Well if you're already planning your Christmas gifts, you might want to consider giving scented candles.

This is my current obsession! I've been hoarding candles nonstop ever since we moved to our new place. Who doesn't want a fragrant home right? So far I've tried 2 brands and I actually decided to give one of the brands to my friend when she celebrated her birthday last August.

If you want to check out my blog post about Alice Blue, click here. What I like most about it is that you don't need to light it every single time. They also have a good selection of scents, I prefer choosing something mild for my bedroom and something stronger for the bathroom. My favorites would have to be- Oakmoss & Sage and Rosebush for bedroom, Red Currant for bathroom. The next scent that I want to try is Lavender..I really like this brand a lot and I think it's actually worth the money.

I boought Betty Crocker scented candles as well to give them a try. I purchased them from S&R. They were on SALE at P299 for a big jar! That's quite a steal. When I tried sniffing it, I loved the smell immediately. So obviously, I had to purchase a batch and try for myself. I got Blueberry Pie for the kitchen/dining, and it smells really nice. I also bought Pineapple Sorbet for the bathroom. Well let's just say it's not as strong as Alice Blue, but then again it's half the price or so!

Well I still recommend Alice Blue. But like what I think I would still try out other brands just to check if there are other cheaper alternatives but still great quality. :) If you have any suggestions, do let me know. I'm still open to purchasing more! :) Haha!

Snoe Past, Present and the Future Event

If I were asked what my favorite Filipino cosmetic brands are, Snoe is definitely at the top of my list. Why? They've got innovative, great quality products and really cute packaging! Did I mention they're affordable too?

I was pleased to be invited to another event. This is my 3rd time to go to Snoe's event. Even though my schedule was pretty tight that day, I still made sure that I'm present that day. I was so excited to see what they have in store. Plus they also mentioned in their invite that they will be showcasing the Past, Present and the Future products of Snoe.

Jen, founder of Snoe, talked about the past products of Snoe, meaning the current ones that they have. Good news is that they have so much more planned for us. Just these coming months, they will be launching new skin care products and cosmetics. Bad news? They will be phasing out a couple of their "past" products. Jen didn't tell us which products they were though.

Looking back at how they started with just key or essential products, it's so nice to see how Snoe has grown. I was telling Jen that I find it amazing how they launch a new product almost every single month! They don't stop working. ;)

A lot of beauty bloggers, old and new, were present in the event! It was great seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones!

A new project was also introduced to us, Peace Love Happiness and Cosmetics. The idea is for the customer to customize whatever product she wants. She can even sell it and relabel it. It's like a wholesale idea. It's great for those people who are looking into creating their own brand but would want someone to do or make products for them or simply for those people who are looking for souvenirs or gifts this Christmas. Check their facebook page to know more.

I went around and checked their products. It's like a candy store and I want them all! :D I have been using Snoe products ever since I learned abut the brand. Unfortunately, I have to put a pause to some of the products that I'm using because I'm pregnant and they're not safe for pregnant women (i.e. whitening products)

Now I know some of you really want to know what they have in store for us in the coming months. Well here's a sneak peek at the products they're working on. They asked for our opinions on them, feedback and what products we would want for their "future".

Eyeliners, Eyebrow liners, Lipstains, Powder Foundation (2 Way), Liquid Foundation, False Eyelashes, Fragrance

I personally told Jen and Gen that I'm hoping they'd come out with Dry Shampoo. As you know, I will be giving birth next year and I've been hunting for dry shampoos available here in the Philippines. Us Fil-Chi have this thing called "ge lai" and I will probably do that- or at least try as much as I can. So I'm looking for a good dry shampoo that I can use during that period when I can't take a bath just yet.

Of course, an event is not an event without photos with other bloggers!

Photo grabbed from Iya

So the theme was Past, Present and the Future. We were asked to wear something futuristic. Well it was a hard attire to pull off. But I really liked Iya's interpretation. Love the dress!

Here's Jen of Snoe, rocking her glittery ourfit! Loves it!!!

And the very helpful Nikki. She was sweet and uber friendly! She assisted me and showed me all the products of Snoe.

Here's the other beauty of Snoe, Gen. She's also pregnant like me. I had so much fun talking with her. We're on the same month! :) Isn't she glowing?

Photo from Snoe's Facebook

As for me, I honestly didn't have any futuristic outfit. And most of my clothes don't fit me anymore. So I just opted for a midnight blue dress and put my hair up in a pony. And just went all out on my eye makeup!

As for my accessories, I just wore my The Little Things She Needs earrings and as always wore my love rings as a necklace. :)

More product reviews and demos on the way! :D Thanks Snoe for another wonderful event! Till the next one!

Selecting the Right Foundation for Your Skin

Here's a very helpful post for all makeup newbies out there. Thanks Debbie!

To give your face a flawless finish, you first need to take the time to select the right foundation for your particular skin type and needs. Your face is the first thing that people see, therefore the foundation you use can be thought of as your primer. Foundation helps to even out skin tones, create a base for applying other makeup so that it stays fresh, and even correcting and concealing troublesome blemishes. Choose the wrong foundation, however, and your face doesn’t present the naturally beautiful complexion you want the rest of the world to notice.

For model-quality results, here are some tips for selecting the best foundation for your pretty face.

Tip 1: Determine your skin type and tone.
Each face is very unique, especially yours. That means you need a special foundation that’s perfect for you. First, figure out what your skin type and tone is. Faces normally fall under three skin type categories- oily, dry, or combination. Next, notice your skin tones, meaning the colors that are there. For example, you may have olive complexion with yellow undertones, or a fair complexion with pink or peach undertones. For a guide on discovering your skin tone, read Tips to Determine Your Skin Tone

Tip 2: Choose your preferred foundation formula.
Now it comes down to your personal preferences in a foundation type. There are actually many types of foundation on the market, each with their own properties that are made for your skin type and tone. Choose one of the following:
  • Liquid to powder and mineral powder foundation- good for oily skin types
  • Matte compact foundation- good for combination and dry skin types
  • Liquid foundation- good for dry or aging skin

Tip 3: Special skin needs
There may be times when you need a little extra help in terms of your skin tone or the condition of your face. Experiencing breakouts, switching from one season to another, scars or marks on the skin, and even showing signs of aging can all signal it’s time to get a new foundation for a while. You may need to find a formula that includes a tone corrector, sunscreen, or anti-aging ingredients to tone and firm the skin the way you want it to appear.

Oftentimes, a visit to the local beauty counter at your favorite merchant can help you try samples of new skin products that can enhance your natural looks.

It’s important to note that while foundation can help to conceal some skin problems and give your face a more smooth finish for applying makeup, ongoing skin problems should be brought to the attention of a physician. You’ll also want to make sure to thoroughly clean your face each day to remove all traces of the foundation, a practice that is especially important at bedtime to retain a youthful appearance and prevent acne.

Choose a gentle exfoliator for your face once a week for deeper cleansing. Replace your foundation at least once every 3 months and never share with others, to reduce skin problems that can be caused by bacteria.

Growing Up, A Year Older

Hey everyone! Happy Monday! If you didn't know, I celebrated my birthday last Friday. I turned 27! Today I wanted to go a little personal. There are times I just couldn't believe that I'm already an adult- all grown up and now opening another chapter of my life.

I learned quite a lot of things in my 27 years of living and I wanted to share 3 things with you.

1. Take time to know yourself. I mentioned this time and time again, I was or still am the type of person who doesn't get "peer pressured". I guess even when I was younger, I already knew who I wanted to be with, what I like and don't like to do. This will build your character. I know that I am who I am right now because of the decisions that I made even when I was younger. I admit there are some regrets, but mostly, I try to think about them as memories.

2. Save up. I never really saved money when I was younger. I guess I just didn't think about it. But when I stepped into the corporate world, I learned that saving up is so important that it might actually save your life! Imagine needing to go to the hospital or buying medicine, and not having any money at all. I have always been the type who does not ask/beg. I feel like things that you buy or acquire with your own sweat and money are more valuable than things that you asked for.

3. Dreams do come true. I never knew how or why my dreams came true. I don't know what good deeds I did why I was blessed this way. I have always dreamed of having a happy family among other things. I know that material things are important, but for me, I've always thought that nothing else matters more than family. I found H and we got married (coincidentally at the age of 24, which was what I've always dreamed of) and now I'm finally pregnant (I initially thought at the age of 26, but hey! What's just 1 year difference, right?)

Growing up means needing to make more decisions.
I am now in the stage of my life when I need to make decisions, simple and tough ones. I sometimes miss those carefree days when I can just ask my parents to decide for me. Now it's different. I have to take risks in life and have to deal with all the consequences of my decisions.

Growing up means more responsibility.
I've been married for 3 years now and have a baby on the way. In less than 3 months, we will be welcoming another member of our family. H has always told me that we, the two of us, are already a family. But now that we're having a baby, we're already expanding our family. It's scary to think that I am now responsible for 2 people, my husband and my child. But that's what growing up means. I have to be sure of myself because 2 people are depending on me.

But I am not afraid of growing up and getting older. Because I know that this means I'm learning from each and every thing that happens to me everyday. I know that I'm much wiser now and I now know what my strengths and weaknesses are. I know that I'm a good wife and I will be a good mother. I believe in it. I believe in Me.

I also want to thank each and every reader for spending time reading my posts. You have no idea how happy it makes me. My blog started as a hobby, but now I know that I get to help people with my articles as well. There are days when I feel low, and I just go back to reading your comments, it lifts up my mood and changes my day.

I also want to thank all the companies that trusts me with their brands. I know how it is, given my business background. Thank you so much for believing in me and my blog.

Now to end this sappy post, here are a few gifts I received last week so be sure to stay tuned for posts on these in the upcoming weeks!

The loot that I got from Snoe when I attended their Past, Present, Future event.
Post on the event to follow. :)

A sweet surprise from Beauty Box!
Excited to try out these mascaras because they're very famous. ;)

So that is it for today. Have a beautiful day ahead! :D

Virginia Olsen: Impromtu Oil Control Experiment

As promised, here's our little impromptu oil control experiment using products of Virginia Olsen Minerals. Thank goodness the beautiful Aya said yes to being a model for this experiment.

Aya has oily skin especially on her t-zone. I couldn't capture it properly but in person, you can see her oilies better.

First thing she used was Virginia Olsen HD Mineral Mattifying Base. Jirbie says it's very similar to a very popular brand of mattifying base that claims they're 100% mineral, but in reality, they're not. (Fail!)

Aya used Virginia Olsen's Powder Brush to apply this focusing on her t-zone. *Keep in mind that since it was pretty impromptu, Aya just retouched her makeup since she already had makeup on.

Here's how it looks like with just the primer on:

Next step was to use Hide-A-Pore in Light. I have personally tried using it as well, and I gotta say it works! It helped reduce the appearance of my pores. So I was excitedly telling Aya to use this.

I told her to focus on her nose and her cheeks:

Last step was to use a finishing veil. Aya used the Green Tea line of Virginia Olsen. This is their premium line. She chose the one for normal to oily formula for apparent reasons.

This product only has one shade and it comes in two variants. Normal to Oily and Normal-Dry.

 Here is the final result:

Here's a side by side comparison. I chose to use flash to get clearer shots of Aya's skin. As you can see, it really reduced her oiliness. You would still see a little bit of glow, but it's just the right amount of dewiness.

And again, this was just retouching! Imagine if she didn't have any face makeup on and she just used Virginia Olsen products! :)

I actually purchased VO foundation, Hide-A-Pore and bronzer. I also got a sample of the HD Mineral Mattifying Base. So I'll try to do another experiment of my own sometime soon! :) If you're interested in purchasing Virginia Olsen's products, you can visit their website at

Virginia Olsen Minerals Fantasy Holiday Collection Launch

Virginia Olsen Minerals recently launched their Holiday Collection, Fantasy Limited Edition 2012. I, together with other beauty bloggers, were invited to their head office to be able to take a peek of their newest line. Of course I just "needed" to be there. My love for makeup all started because of mineral makeup and finding and getting to know different brands of mineral makeup is truly a treasure hunt. Ever since I got my hands on Virginia Olsen, I knew I found a really good quality brand.

Swatches: (Because we all know that sometimes the colors turn out differently when swatched compared to the colors in the pot.)

 Top: Kyrptonite, Fairydust, Tinkerbelle
Bottom: Stardust, Lovers Moon, Moonlight Star, Crescent Moon
(without flash)

I decided to take photos of the minerals in the pot as well:

Top: Fairydust, Stardust, Crescent Moon, Tinkerbelle
Lovers Moon, Moonlight Star, Kryptonite

The colors are iridescent, shimmery minerals. They give you beautiful fairytale like colors. I like it for the center of the lids, I think it would look so gorgeous. In fact I already tried using it and it definitely makes a statement!

And since we were already in the head office, Jirbie and Hazel brought out more makeup! All of the girls swoon when we saw all the minerals! Kanya-kanyang swatch na to! :p

We were all so focused on what we were doing. Here's Aya and myself, looking like we're reviewing for a quiz. Haha!
 Photo from Virginia Olsen's FB

Did you know Virginia Olsen has  its own line of brushes too? They're eco-friendly, vegan and uber-soft! I'll do a review on these too. I've already used some of their brushes in a previous tutorial and all I can say is I'm very very impressed that I kept commenting about it and telling the other beauty bloggers to get the brushes!

I decided to try out some of their products and retouch my makeup:

Eye makeup:
Gold Bars, Winter Orchids, Kryptonite

Face makeup:
Light Brown Matte Bronzer for contour
Hide-A-Pore Medium on tzone

Well there were so many products to try out! I'll be doing another blog post on an experiment that Aya and I did. We tried out Virginia Olsen's oil control face products. Well it was actually just Aya. Haha! Will post about that soon!

Jirbie also talked about another product that they're now starting to sell. It's the Sophia Eyelash Enhancer.

Basically, it's a natural treatment for the eyelashes to make them grow faster and thicker. They've shown us several photos of women who have tried using this product and I gotta say, I'm so intrigued! Jirbie says you only need to use it at night and apply it on the lashline. After a month of use, you can already see a significant difference!

Oh I wish I get to try it sometime soon! ;) Yes, Jirbie says it's safe even for pregnant women! And if you've been with me from day 1, you would have known how obsessed I was with my lashes that I used to get them permed every 3 months! :p

Jirbie and Hazel raffled off one bottle and Iya won! Lucky girl! :D

Hint hint! Don't forget to subscribe to Saladbox this December! Virginia Olsen is definitely treating subscribers to a wonderful gift. ;)

We had such a great time! Like what I posted in my Instagram (yellowyum), it's chicas, chikkas and makeup! What more can you ask for? :)

Thank you so much Virginia Olsen Minerals for inviting me! I am so excited to use more of your products! :D
