If you follow me on twitter (@CharYellowYum), you have probably read my tweet yesterday that I was going to get a massage and I will try out a spa near our place. So I did and I am so glad that my amma and my mum recommended this place to me.

I actually always pass by Libis- everyday when I go to work and I always see Nuat Thai. However, the outside turned me off just because it doesn’t look like a spa from the outside. It’s at a second floor of a commercial bldg. Little did I know that a secret sanctuary awaits.

I initially wanted to get a Thai Massage with Oil (P250+50) and Nuat Thai Foot Massage (P250). I initially asked if I can have my foot massage in the same bed as my body massage and they said yes.  I was told that the oil will only be applied on my back only. My therapist suggested getting a Swedish Massage (P350) instead. Their version is a combination of Swedish and Thai and the massage oil will be applied on my entire body. I happily agreed.

At the reception area, I was asked to choose from Eucalyptus, Green Tea and Lavender massage oils. I chose Lavender.

IMG_0879

The interiors were very serene. It was quite dark wit just a few warm lights. But I personally love that. I feel it’s more relaxing this way. They played very soothing "spa" music.

I was then escorted to the washing area where my therapist, Eva, washed my feet in preparation for my massage. It actually reminded me of my Thai massage back in Bangkok. That’s also what they do before the massage. I liked Eva because she was not shy to suggest things. She suggested that we do the Swedish massage first before the foot massage because she would be asking me to lie on my back first then on my stomach. I appreciate little things like this. :)

IMG_0867

I love the foot scrub that she used It was very minty, so it felt cool on the skin.

After washing,  I was led to my room. Since I was going to get a Swedish massage, my room had a normal bed (meaning it had a bed structure?!) For Thai massages, this is a photo of their room:

IMG_0876

My room was very very dark at first. Eva said that there’s a hole for my face and when I searched for it, it had a thin cloth and at first I tried to stick my face in there with the thin cloth covering my face. I think this is probably done for sanitary purposes or something. However, I found it hard to breathe. Haha! So I opted to remove it when I was already being massaged. :)

On to my massage, Eva asked me what kind of pressure I wanted, moderate or hard. I said hard, but when she started massaging me, I realized Eva was very actually very strong, so when she asked me if the pressure was okay, I told her “sige, moderate nalang pala.” Hahaha! The whole body massage was soooooo relaxing. I wasn’t able to doze off though. I don’t know why. I would have wanted more pressure points to be pressed but the massage was really good. She started with my legs moving to my back. She mostly used kneading technique to massage me. It was really good. And another plus point? After massaging with oil, she put some kind of minty powder. This obviously removed the sticky and oily feeling right away.

When I was asked to turn, she proceeded with my legs and my arms. And after which, she excused herself to get some heating pads for my lower back and my nape. When it was time for my foot massage, I was already very very eager. I didn’t see, but she used some kind of tool. I think it’s a pointed wooden stick or something like that to help with the foot reflexology. I asked my foot massage to be hard and it was so sooo good. I liked the wooden stick that she used because I am very very much addicted to foot reflex and pressure points. She also massaged my feet with her hands too. I fell asleep probably along half from the treatment.

When I woke, she was already preparing (sanitizing her hands) to massage my head. This I wasn’t so happy about just because I wanted more!!!! I felt like the head massage was just for 5 minutes, though of course I don’t know how long it really was for. Apart from my feet, I hold a lot of tension and stress in my head and getting my head massaged relaxes me 100%. I realized I should have told Eva to concentrate more on these areas. :/

After the massage, Eva ever so gently tapped my shoulder and said that the massage is finished, asked me if I wanted water or hot tea and told me she’ll just come back to wake up later and to relax for a few minutes.

After napping for a couple of minutes, I decided to go already since H would be picking me up. I went and used their wash room first and took a photo to show you how clean it is too.

IMG_0871

As I went out, back to the reception, my hot tea and face cloth were already waiting for me.

Overall, my Nuat Thai experience was very good- superb! I definitely would bring my husband there. I would want to try their Thai Massage also. But I will definitely definitely go back for the foot massage! I would have to say it’s in the running to be my favorite foot massage in Metro Manila. I’d probably have to go back once more to test it one more time before confirming and awarding it my most favorite. Haha! :p

So if you guys are from the area, or you want a quality massage with cheap prices, Nuat Thai is a winner! :) I know they have other branches too, but Libis branch is the only branch I’ve tried so far.
I’d love to hear your experiences too or your other favorite spas. Share with me. :)
Here’s a little tutorial that I made on how to quickly transform from a fun makeup to a sexy one by just changing your lip color. This is actually something that I normally do- change lip colors.
After priming and putting on sunblock, I used Skin Hour Mattifying Day Cream, blend your chosen foundation with a stippling brush to make it natural looking. I am using Loreal True Match Foundation in Golden Beige
IMG_0506
Next is to set the liquid foundation with loose powder. I am using Dream Minerals Setting Powder in Angel.

IMG_0531

Next is to do the concealing process. Click here for the steps.

Then it’s time to groom the eyebrows. Fill the sparse area and shape with eyebrow powder. I am using Modelco Eyebrow Powder in Dark.

IMG_0538

After brushing to distribute the color, I apply MAC Browset in Beguile to set the eyebrow powder. It lightens and keeps the powder in place the entire day.

IMG_0539

Now onto the eye makeup, using a satin beige color for all over eye color:

 IMG_0640LuLu Makeup
Apply it on to the eyelids with a large eyeshadow brush:
IMG_0642

I wanted a little sparkle so I added shimmer by using my Etude House Bling Bling Eyestick and added it near my lashline.

IMG_0647

Next is a darker color, in my case a matte tan shade to add depth to the eyes:

 IMG_0644 LuLu Makeup
Choosing a medium sized eyeshadow brush, I place the color on my outer v.

IMG_0653

Using a small eyeshadow brush for easy control, Apply the same darker shade to the lower lash line, concentrating on the outer part.

IMG_0663

It should look like this:

IMG_0654

Of course blending is next. This is very important to soften the harsh edges of the darker crease color.

IMG_0657

Now for highlight, I chose an off white shade because I wanted the look to be natural looking and I find off white shadows are perfect for this.

 IMG_0659 LuLu Makeup
With an angeled brush, sweep it to the browbone and blend it lightly with the crease color.

IMG_0662

Using a gel eyeliner, apply it as closest as possible to the lashline. We don’t want it to look to obviously lined. I used LuLu Makeup Brown Gel Eyeliner.

IMG_0665

While waiting for it to dry, I moved to my face. I contoured my face using Fanny Serrano Two Way Cake in Rajah. I applied it to my cheeks, jawline, and blended it to my temples.
IMG_0550
Since I have a small nose, I also contoured it using the same product but with an extra small eyeshadow brush.
IMG_0577
Blush is next! I chose to use two blushes, a cream blush and powder blush. For the cream blush, I chose NYX Cream Blush in Glow. Stipple it and blend the edges with your fingers.
IMG_0560
Set with a powder blush. I chose a shade close to the cream blush.
IMG_0566
Lastly for the face, highlight! I highlight my cheek panes right above the blush color and apply a little above the eyebrows and the bridge of the nose. I used Etude House Secret Beam Highlighter.
IMG_0612
IMG_0617
IMG_0613
Going back to the eyes. Curl and apply mascara. Since I wanted a natural look, I chose to use Maybelline Long Extreme Stiletto Mascara to lengthen my lashes.

Showing the eye makeup:

Now for the lip color:

For the fun look, I chose my most fun and dramatic shade, Careline Lipgloss 103. And here’s what I came up with:

IMG_0691

IMG_0699

I would wear this look when meeting with my friends. Even though the lip color is quite shocking, I still feel I can pull it off. The focus is all on the lips since we kept the eyes a little neutral and simple. This would be a great day time look or dinner with the girls!

IMG_0712

Now for a sexier look:

I knew I would go for red lips that’s why I kept the eye makeup simple. And when wearing red lips, it’s important to line the lips first. I am using Etude House Soft Touch Auto Liner then applied my red lipstick with a lip brush for precise application.

IMG_0725

And here’s my look:

IMG_0738

IMG_0754

So maybe I don’t look “sexy”, but I think with red lips- it just screams romance. I would wear this for a dinner date with my husband or even for a party. It just looks more dressed up than the previous look. But I still like!

Tell me what you think and which you like better. 🙂

It’s a not-so-nice Saturday! It has been raining nonstop and typhoon Falcon has flooded some areas already. Kinda started reminding me of Ondoy, but reports say that it’s nowhere near Ondoy which probably is a good thing. Well we had to postpone a photo shoot scheduled tomorrow which is such a bummer. But anyways, we’ll get it done next week when the weather is better for everyone.
Since I am actually in the middle of work right now,  wanted to share just a short post about one of the new places I have just recently discovered. I am talking about Banana Leaf Restaurant. Actually it’s been here in the Philippines for quite some time now but I just haven’t had the chance to go and try and eat there.
So here’s the story. Back in Bangkok (during my last trip just this month), my hubby and I saw a hawker stall selling roti. Roti is a bread which I think is popularly known in Singapore and Malaysia (and maybe in India too, I’m not sure.) But I remember when we were in Malaysia, in the hotel we were staying at, H and I would always eat roti for our breakfast meal and I loved it ever since. So when I saw it in the side street, I told H that I wanted to try it.
It was topped with egg, condensed milk and some sugar.
It was different from what we had in Malaysia because the one we had was paired with some curry sauce. However, this sweet roti was also superb! In fact, H loved it too that he went back and bought some more.
When we got back to MNL, H was still craving for some more roti. He eventually started researching where we can get some roti here in the Philippines and one of his friends recommended Banana Leaf.
So the hunt was ON! We visited Podium (we rarely go here) to go and dine at Banana Leaf. The place was very cozy and there were a lot of booths and tables that you can easily get one even without reservation. I wasn’t able to take photos of the place anymore but I’ll try next time. *hint hint*
For our food, I wasn’t able to get the names nor the prices as well. H and I were discussing important things about our new project so I wasn’t really paying attention of me being a blogger. :/ But I still wanted to talk about the food and experience I had in Banana Leaf so here I am, writing a post about it.
Roti with Banana
Condensed Milk as dip
This is the sweet kind of roti. With the banana tucked into the warm bread, it was sooo good.  Then we dip it to the condensed milk, it just reminded us of Bangkok once again.
I liked it but did felt that it was too sweet for me. With the banana inside that was coated with a little bit of syrup and the condensed milk, I felt it was more for dessert that appetizer.
So I ordered another roti. Anyways, I chose a regular one and got curry sauce for dip.
I assume you already know how this goes. I love curry and I love this bread. Combine the two that I love- MAGIC! I obviously enjoyed this better than the previous one because of the dip. And I think I like the plain roti better too.
I liked the roti of Banana Leaf that I will go back for it. However, compared to the ones we had in Bangkok, these were a little drier. It wasn’t as chewy as we hoped it would be. But since we haven’t found other roti restraurants yet, we’re okay with Banana Leaf.
We also got some more food. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take down the names of the food. 🙁
This dish I loved. It was a Malaysian chicken dish. It was breaded chicken. As it is, it was already flavorful. But knowing that I am very much into flavor and I’m quite extreme. I tried dipping it into my curry sauce and BAM! It was TO DIE FOR! It was sooo delicious. H eventually did the same thing and he said that it did really match perfectly. 🙂
Lastly, we ordered Baby Back Ribs. But honestly, it was such a disappointment. It wasn’t that good. The only thing it’s got going is it was tender. But I did not like the sauce, nor the flavor of the ribs. H did not enjoy this as well. Will not order this again next time.
And for Citibank Gold and Premiere card holders, Banana Leaf Podium branch has a 15% promo for dine in customers. 🙂 Yey!!! The prices are actually pretty reasonable but who wouldn’t want additional discounts right?
