Lowdown on Cozy Nail Lounge

I’ve shared my initial experience in Cozy Nail Lounge and I was hooked. With the beautiful interiors, uber friendly staff, and amazing service, I knew that I’d go back for more.

I was lucky enough to talk with one of the owners, Ms. Michelle Taruc who was kind enough to share some tidbits about Cozy.

Yellow Yum: When did Cozy start?
Michelle: Cozy started when I got married and looking for a good nail place, I've visited several branches around the area. Since I got married, the one who does my nails lives quite far; so I thought that since I already have a wax salon, I might as well open our own nail spa that can do my nails and serve our clients from the wax salon because our clients are also looking for nail service.

YY: How did you come up with the name? And what is the concept behind Cozy?
Michelle: With the name, of course, we always look for a cozy place, so we decided to use Cozy as our name. There are three of us in this salon, my friend, Wenna Lindayag, my sister, Mary Jane Tiffany Go and myself. The place obviously has to be cozy, chairs should be one of the top priority in making the place cozy. So we made use of lazy boys that can be converted to beds as chairs for our clients.

YY: What are the services that you offer, your best sellers? What is the difference of Cozy to other competitors?
Michelle: Cozy Nail Lounge has the same services like other nails salon, the mani and pedi service, foot scrubs, spot massages and paraffin. The best seller in our salon is the Mojito package. We usually create packages so that the clients won't have a hard time choosing which service to get. We have just recently launch our Octoberfest Packages, and Mojito is the best seller of all. During our Cozyfest, we also serve wine on the side to complement the October season a.k.a.  Octoberfest! Another service that we have is application of gel nails. These gel nails can last for 2 weeks. This is one of the most recent and latest way of having your nails look shiny and last long. We also have the nails art services that they can try.

YY: The Mojito sounds very interesting. What is so special about it?
Michelle: Mojito includes foot moisturizer, that’s the main difference. I always tell my clients that if they visit the salon and have their feet done with the Mojito package and if they are not satisfied with the service, they can leave the salon without paying us. They get the package for free. We guarantee them that their feet will feel softer after the treatment.  The customer can bring home the foot file that was used too.

YY: Are the staff formally trained? Who does the training?
Michelle: Our staff have their certificate training. They are trained by Top Nail Educator from Hong Kong. And as owners of the nail spa, we also obliged ourselves to undergo training too. This helps us to be more knowledgeable and more aware of the scientific things especially behind gel nails.

YY: Any suggestions and guarantees when going to the salon?
Michelle: We assure our clients- cleanliness. We always sterilize our nails services utensils. To new clients, always find time and try our Mojito package, our all time favorite!

California Pizza Kitchen

The Holidays is almost over and it means back to reality. I’m still very much enjoying the company of my family and friends. These are the times we can get together and spend quality time together. However, I missed blogging so much and my camera’s memory is already full with photos of the things I wanted to talk about. I’ll get back to regular programming by next year though. Or should I say a few days from now? :p

One of the things I wanted to share with you is my love for California Pizza Kitchen. It sure is one of the best when it comes to pasta and pizza. I have always loved dining there, and I could still remember my first visits back in highschool.

My staple orders revolve around pizza and pasta. I’m a huge pizza eater and I admit my selfishness strikes when it comes to CPK’s pizza. I was having food cravings recently and wanted to eat at CPK so badly. Luckily, H was open to the idea too and so after delivering Skin Hour stocks at Moonshine Garb Boutique in Rockwell, we headed to CPK just across Archeology.

Here are our orders: (which is what we usually order when we dine in CPK.)

Lemon Iced Tea (P105.00)

Was supposed to get the Raspberry one, but decided on Lemon because I liked the citrusy flavor.

Grilled Sausage Penne Bolognese Sauce
Full Size (P565.00)

Our favorite pasta! Since we are meat lovers, this pasta surely satisfies our craving with its hot sausage! I love penne pasta so I’d say this is a pasta made especially for me. :p It’s a little hot because of the sausage used, I think it’s Italian sausage. But it’s not too spicy that will make you cry. :)

 Santa Fe Chicken Pizza (P325.00)

Served with tomatoes and  cream cheese

My favorite pizza in CPK! First of all, it’s chicken. So to those who don’t eat red meat, this is a must! I love the fresh tomatoes mixed with the onions and cheese. Plus the cream cheese that melts when you spread it on top of the pizza. It’s the best! So far, this is the best CPK pizza I have ever tasted and actually ever since I tasted this, this has already been my staple order in CPK. That’s how good this is.

Are you craving for some CPK now? I sure am! Haha! With the cozy laid back ambiance, the friendly staff, the perfect food, nothing can go wrong with California Pizza Kitchen. :p

The Purple Jar's Strawberry Cheesecake

I've been MIA lately because of different Christmas parties and activities I had to attend to. And of course, my family will also be celebrating Christmas tomorrow and on the 25th. So no posts during those dates as well. I will try to get back on regular blogging soon once the Christmas hype has died down. Traffic is exaggerated! Have you noticed? Tsk tsk. But I can't wait for Christmas Day!

Tomorrow, I will be doing some errands, delivering and working on another photo shoot before my family's Christmas party. Good thing, I'll have good company with me. :) It's one packed Christmas season!

Well my dear friend Ceena started her baking business named The Purple Jar. And it's a great start given that it's the Christmas season and people enjoy giving edible gifts to families.

The Purple Jar is your one of a kind jar of goodies. Sweet and mouth-watering pastries packaged in cute jars, The Purple Jar freshly bakes and seals your all time favorite goodies in a jar.

The Purple Jar uses only the best ingredients in the market. They make sure that the jars used are new and clean.

So whether it's for your sweet tooth, or for that special someone's, The Purple Jar is surely the dessert that will satisfy everyone's sweet craving!

Ceena actually gave me a Strawberry Cheesecake in a Jar as a Christmas present. So I was able to taste this unique product and I would have to say it's one of the best cheesecakes I have ever tasted. No joke. I'm not being biased, but it really really is one of the best. :)

First up, I actually like Strawberry Cheesecake better than Blueberry. I just find strawberry better to pair with the sour taste of the cheesecake. It compliments and neutralizes the taste better. That's just my preference.

Second, I like the citrus twist to Purple Jar's cheesecake. It makes it more unique and gives you a nice surprise to the traditional cheesecake. It's not overpowering that you only taste the citrus touch, but it acts as a refresher to the cake. I like it very much. I would say this is the market point of Purple Jar.

Another good thing about Purple Jar is the packaging. the cheesecake is baked inside a jar that is tightly sealed so it stays fresh all the time.

Cheesecake in a Jar Php 375.00
Blueberry and Strawberry

Usually when I eat cheesecakes, my throat hurts. I think this is because of the thickness of the cheese added. But with Purple Jar, I have already eaten half a jar in one seating, I didn't experience any sore throat. This does not mean that the cheese is not rich at all. The texture is really good. It was very creamy but it was not heavy at all. The crust, which I think is made of graham, was also good. It wasn't dry, very delectable. The cheesecake is velvety. Loves!!! And it has real strawberries as toppings. It's such a treat!

I really recommend you to try Purple Jar's cheesecake. I have shared it with my MIL and SIL and they both liked it very much! Why not give a Purple Jar treat to someone you love? Christmas is almost here so go and place your orders right away.

Purple Jar also offers:

Choco-Butterscotch Brownies

Original (Large Jar Php 335; Small Jar Php 250)
Guiltless (Large Jar Php 385; Small Jar Php 250)

I for one have already ordered and received my Choco-Butterscotch Brownies to give us gifts for my family. :)

Reception: Blue Leaf Events Pavilion

It's been ages since I lasted posted a wedding related entry. I guess there was just so much to talk about, that my reverse blogging had to be put on hold. Well, since I have time in my hands right now, I decided to talk about another very crucial decision to do. This is actually one of the first things we booked right away. It's our reception venue.

There was a big discussion on this, because my parents wanted it to be held at a restaurant, and H and I wanted an event venue or hotel. H and I had a vision of what and how we wanted it so we decided on the latter. So  when H and I canvassed and computed, it showed that choosing to have the reception at an events place is cheaper than a hotel.

Blue Leaf was one of the first event venues we had in mind, but H and I were quite skeptic and scared of the price tag. We visited the place and it blew me away. Like what I said to H, I could already see my wedding reception there. The place was breath-taking as it is.

We went to Crowne Plaza to check on the rates if we were to have our reception there. We chose Crowne Plaza because that was where we will be checking in for our hotel preps. They were already booked for our date. What they were giving us was a function room and we didn't like it at all. So H told me to go for Blue Leaf. I was ecstatic!

One of the things I love most about Blue Leaf is its location. It's a hidden place in Fort. It's secluded and very intimate. Which was how our wedding was like. And with just minimal styling, it was very elegant. The place, the ambiance, the mood it exudes. I liked it that way and it also minimized our costs since we didn't have to spend for an event stylist aymore.

We chose the Banyan pavilion for it can hold about 300 guests. We were expecting more or less that number, so it was the perfect venue. It was the biggest of all three pavilions. Blue Leaf also has Silk, which has a capacity of 110 people and Jade which can hold 100 people. There's also an option to get both Banyan and Jade for 500 guests.

Did I mention one of my favorite things about it is the VIP Lounge? Both Banyan and Silk has its own lounge. I thought this would be very helpful so that we don't need to go back to the hotel before going to Blue Leaf. H and I can stay in the lounge area first. :) Which was what we did. We also were fed a bit of appetizers while we were in the lounge by our caterer. She said she knows we won't be able to eat properly when the program starts.

The pavilion was spacious. We requested for a small dance floor for our first dance and the program. And the rest we had round tables and two VIP long tables for our principal sponsors and parents, and of course the table for the newlyweds.

The venue inclusions are as follows:
  • Five (5) hours use of venue
  • Two (2) hours ingress
  • One (1) hour egress
  • Air-conditioning system
  • Pavilion Projector and screen (2,400 lumens LCD projector, 8ft. x 8ft. screen)
  • Pavilion sound system (Delta 6 speakers, 1 equalizer, 3 amplifiers, 1 mixer with 6 inputs, 2 microphones, 1 media player)
  • Parking space
  • Caterer's area
  • Pavilion Lounge (adjacent to the pavilion)
  • Security Staff support
  • Engineering staff support
  • Housekeeping staff support

I think the most important things to consider in choosing a reception venue are the following:
  1. Budget - Compute and recompute your budget. In our case, the hotel was more expensive than the event venue. And the food, we were pretty sure, won't be as good if we were to be strict with our budget.
  2. Location - It's best if the location of the reception is close to the church. Our wedding church was Santuario de San Jose in Greenhills. We allotted maximum of 30-45minutes travel time from the church to the reception, given that our wedding was a Sunday (not much traffic).
  3. Privacy - This is my personal opinion. I like my events private, no party crashers as much as possible. Intimate, with only the people you want there.
  4. Mood and ambiance- If you visit the venue and already sense the mood that you want for your wedding, it helps minimize styling costs.
  5. Parking - Ample parking is always crucial. There are other event venues in the Metro, but some don't have enough parking space. This, we find is very important, because we have elders who are coming to the reception. We didn't want them to walk too far, and hear negative comments about the event. And we also think of the convenience of our guests. Not everyone has their own drivers.

Blue Leaf passed all the criteria and we're very satisfied with the place. I have some other tips based on my experience if you want to book at Blue Leaf. These are the things we did.
  1. The place already has a sound system, so you can opt to get a live band and not rent another sound system anymore.
  2. We paid an additional P5000 to tap to the electricity of the pavilion because we had lights installed.
  3. We had drapes installed as well. Half draping is fine, given it already looks very romantic.
  4. Have a backup plan for your cocktails. Usually cocktails are done at the back. But if it rains, the alfresco area doesn't have tents.
  5. If you can pay the full amount right away, ask if they can give you any discount.
  6. Almost every year they increase the rates, so book early to get the running rate.
  7. We didn't hire an events stylist anymore. We just added lights, drapes, candles and flowers.
  8. Always go for an ocular inspection.
  9. If you're bringing additional microphones, test them before the day itself. Just to make sure that it works with their sound system. This also goes with your cds, laptops, etc.
  10. We had my sister make us 2 back up CDs so these were playing when our live band stops for their breaks.

I hope these things help. I know they're not much, but those are the things I found very crucial to know when choosing and deciding on a reception venue. After all, that is when you start to PARTY!

Maybelline Gel Liner Review

Hi everyone, Christmas parties and get togethers have finally started so this just means we’re days away from Christmas! Are you done with your Christmas shopping yet? I have to admit, I haven’t finished.  I’m excited to spend Christmas with my family though. :)

For today’s post, I have finally tested my new Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Brown. And I love it! It could actually pass as a good dupe for MAC Fluidline. It glides smoothly. It doesn’t dry up too quickly. I chose the Brown shade and it has a little bit of shimmer, which makes the liner more interesting.

Here are the photos of me wearing Maybelline Gel Liner:

Products Used:

NYX Cream Blush in Glow
Fanny Serrano Two Way Cake in Rajah
Fanny Serrano Artist Box in Shade 10
Clinique All About Eyes Rich
Max Factor Panstick in True Beige

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Brown
688 Lash Extension Mascara

I still used a primer (UDPP) because I don’t really trust my eyelids. :p I also took photos when I got home. This was about 10-12 hours after I applied my makeup, no retouching. Hence the oily forehead. Hihi!

Not bad right? I really like this product, I’ve already used it several times since I first tested it. Good thing I discovered, went ahead and bought it.

Naughty & Nice List 2010

Hey guys! I’ve finally started my Christmas shopping. Wow malls are pretty packed, noh? Tsk tsk tsk! Luckily, Robinsons Metroeast isn’t as packed as Ayala malls. One of our stores is in Metroeast so we’re almost there everyday. But I still have a long way to go. Whew!

So anyway, I wanted to join Jen’s (of From Head to Toe) tag. It’s called the Naughty & Nice List 2010. It’s basically sharing my most favorite and least favorite beauty products with you. Jen listed 10 products (5 for her likes and 5 for her dislikes), but since it’s Christmas and there’s 12 days of Christmas, I’m sharing 12 products.

Let’s start with my Naughty List:

Magic by Prescriptives

It’s an illuminating makeup base. This was actually given to me by Aunt L. When I saw it I thought that it would be a pretty good base with the little shimmers. It would be a nice highlight for the face. But I gotta be honest, I didn’t like it at all. It was too liquid, too watery. When I applied it on my face, the oil  and the shimmers separated. It was messy. I had to wash off my face again. I tried using it twice or thrice because I thought maybe I wasn’t doing it correctly, but it’s the same process every single time. It’s such a pity because it looked really nice, even the packaging. And the product itself when I put it on my hand looks nice but when it’s spread, no good.

IMG_0388[3] Fashion 21 Duo Blush-On

I have talked about this before when I bought it, however, it just doesn’t compare with my Fashion 21 Single Blush that I had before. Even though this is pretty inexpensive, I still feel like it’s not worth buying. The blush isn’t pigmented, you need to reswipe so many times that the glitters overpower the blush color. Well I have used this a couple of times to test it, but I’m still not happy with it. I think that it’s still important to check on the quality. And this does not have it.

Fashion 21 White Eyeliner

Again, I have talked about this when I bought it. I got this for my waterline. Putting white or baby pink on your waterline brightens and makes the eyes a little bigger. I’ve already done this a couple of times, and wanted to try a local drugstore brand. I got this white eyeliner from Fashion 21 and let me tell you I have never successfully used this  yet. The first time I used it, it didn’t last me even for half an hour. It just melted away. So I tried swatching it on my hand and tried to slightly rub it (very light pressure), and it’s too creamy that it melts and disappears. Waste of money.

IMG_0773 Clinique Moisture Surge Facial Pack

I got this from my Clinique winnings last time. I have tried using it but didn’t think it worked for me. Although I did feel my skin became a little softer right after use. I thought that the size was off. The placing of the holes for the eyes, nose and mouth was weird. I think that this might work or works for other people, however, I didn’t really find it to be helpful for me.

SAX Eyeshadow in Peach Glow

Before anything else, I apologize for the untidy photo. Ever since I got this, I have only used this twice I think. This was my first SAX eyeshadow and I was very excited to try it. I wanted a light pretty shade that I can use for everyday. But this shade was not good. It looked wash off on my lids. I can’t even find the color. It’s not that I don’t recommend this, because this might work for other skintones. I think it’s also because my lids are quite pigmented. But I personally didn’t like it.

Ever Bilena Blue Mascara

I don’t have a photo because I threw the mascara away. At first, I was very curious and intrigued with the mascara. I have only used black mascara so I wanted to see what effect a blue mascara would give me. The first week it was okay. It actually made my lashes look longer, but it keeps smudging. And then after the first week, it started clumping up and drying up real fast. It didn’t even last me for three weeks, I threw it away. It dried up so fast. I don’t know if it’s because I got an old stock or what, but it didn’t work for me. And again I think it’s waste of money.

Now for the Nice List:

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Cottage Cheese

I am in love with this! It really completes my look. It gives the best highlight for me. It makes my eyes look a little bigger. I like using this on my tearducts to give a little drama. It can also be used as an eyeshadow base to make the colors brighter.

Clinique Turnaround Concentrate
Photo from: Clinique’s website

I have mentioned that I don’t like the face pack from Clinique, but what I do LOVE is their Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer. It leaves my skin very soft and it somwehat feels velvety.  It really makes my skin so smooth. And the effect is instant. I feel and see it right away from the time I apply the product and it stays that way for two days or so. I really love this and recommend this to everyone longing for that matte, smooth and baby skin.

IMG_0451[6][3] 688 Lash Extension Mascara

I have shared with y0u my love for this mascara here. And well it’s really one of my most favorite mascaras. First, it’s very cheap. Second, it holds my curls. Third, it gives really good volume to my lashes. Isn’t it what we’re looking for in a mascara? This mascara has it all.

Megaga Professonal 10s Premiere Set
Photo from Dream Collection’s website

This is by far one of my favorite travel sets. I like the very sleek brush pouch. I also like the brushes included and how soft they all are. I am in love with the handle color. For me, it looks amazing. I regularly use this for my everyday look and bring this on overnight trips. My favorite brush in this set is the powder brush. I actually use it as my blush brush and it works fantastic.

M45R01 MAC 187
Photo from MAC website

Another brush that I adore. It’s MAC 187 or stippling brush. Airbrushed effect is the fad nowadays and using a stippling brush helps achieve that. I have seen, tried and experienced it myself and it does really give such a flawless effect. MAC 187 is one of the pioneers and I tell you, it’s something that I would recommend not just to makeup artists, but to beauty junkies as well. Looking so made-up is so last season. There are other dupes you can try as well such as Suesh and Charm.

Photo from Skin Hour’s website

The best mattifying cream I have ever tried. Not to be biased, but this is definitely something that I can vouch for help mattify the face or at least  reduce oiliness. I have combination skin so it’s very important for me to put oil control because I hate retouching throughout the day. I find that when I use this, I don’t have to anymore. It’s one of my most favorite products of all time. I also like the fact that it already has SPF 15 so it helps protect my skin from the sun’s rays.

Well this is my list. I hope this helps and guides you somehow in buying for yourself or for a gift for a loved one. :) Can’t wait to read your list, so I tag everyone reading this. :)

Etude House Mascara Remover

I get a lot of questions regarding cheap alternative to makeup removers especially eye makeup removers. As you know, I’m a user of Skin Hour Deep Cleansing Oil. Just because I like using organic products for my skin. I feel like it helps prevent unnecessary and unwanted breakouts.

For eye makeup removers, here’s one of the products I trust and liked very much. In my recent trip to Etude House, I purchased their Etude House Mascara Remover.

What I love about it:
1. It’s very cheap. I think this costs less than P300.
2. It doesn’t sting the eyes.
3. No weird smell.
4. A small amount is enough to remove eye makeup.

What I don’t like:
1.  You need to use a lot of cotton. Just ‘cause one cotton pad will not remove all the makeup especially the waterproof ones. I usually use two cotton pads to remove all my makeup.

Just  a reminder, this mascara remover is oil based. So it’s normal to feel oily after. I would recommend washing your face after removing the waterproof makeup with this product. Someone also has told me that oil actually is needed to remove those waterproof ones, so I’ve been an avid cleansing oil user since. I’ve also tried Shu Uemura’s coveted Cleansing Oil and it indeed is such a good product. It’s heaven sent! The price is just a little steep.

To be honest, I don’t use this all the time. I regularly use my Skin Hour Deep Cleansing Oil as it removes my eye makeup anyways. So it would be quite redundant to cleanse using this product again. However, I think the EH Mascara Remover is a good non-ogranic alternative. So for those who aren’t very particular about organic stuff, this is a good product.

So yes, I recommend this product. As you can see from the photo above, I’ve already used it and I like it very much.
